5305LT Summer Update
D6535 (33116): The diesel locomotives under our care have taken more of the limelight in recent months as both locomotives have undergone extensive bodywork overhauls and are now both looking superb, with a huge effort and thanks to the GCR shed works (loughborough), Pioneer Diesels Limited and our own trust volunteers.
Class 33 D6535 (33116) continues to be available for traffic at the Great Central Railway. The locomotive was recently showcased at Quorn and Woodhouse station on the 11th/12 July at the 'Mind the Gap' event and was a popular attraction, with cab visits available and our trade stand next door offering our usual selection of new and 2nd hand items on sale. See our earlier postings for our media updates on this.
The sales team had a great weekend and we had the opportunity to hand some new information leaflets out to visitors, showcasing the steam and diesel locomotives under our care. Look out for these at future events where we are in attendance. We usually support most of the event weekends at the Great Central Railway with our shed shop open and occasionally we have our sales stand at stations along the line, with the odd venture our to other railways and shows. The more volunteers we can encourage to join us, the more events we can attend. If you are interested in getting involved in our sales team, please get in touch using the contact details below.
D123: Class 45 D123 continues to be available for traffic at the Great Central Railway and also made an appearance over the weekend of the 11th/12th July, hauling passenger services.
After its last revenue earning trip on the 12th, the locomotive was dropped off at our friends at Rothley carriage and wagon works. They will be helping us to complete the final piece of work on the bodywork repaint, by painting the roof vents using their working at height equipment.
30777: There has been a flurry of activity since the tender lift and we are now surging ahead to get the 2nd tender bogie overhauled and completed, before the tender enters the painting stage. The tender wheelsets on the rear bogie will need to be sent off for tyre turning, which we hope will be done within a week. A date has not been set for this yet. In the meantime, both wheelsets are being cleaned ready for painting.
All four axleboxes are currently being overhauled in the workshop and all springs hangers and springs are in the process of being cleaned and painted, ready for refitting.
Work on the boiler continues and the blower valve was recently removed for overhaul.
As we are now on the final straight towards completing Sir Lamiel's overhaul, we are looking for any help both physically and financially to help us get the job done. To find out more, visit
45305: While our primary focus has been on helping to get both diesel locomotives respective bodywork repairs completed and pushing on with the overhaul of Sir Lamiel, some work is still being undertaken on our flagship locomotive to help keep things moving forward.
We are currently having a new smokebox door made for the 45305 and we will be launching a small appeal shortly to help us fund this work and contribute towards the overhaul costs. Keep a look out for updates on this.
As always, check out our online shop, where all profit goes back into the locomotives in our care:
