5305 Locomotive Association and Oliver Cromwell
70013 Oliver Cromwell is owned by the NRM (National Railway Museum).
In 2003 negotiations were successfully undertaken between Bressingham Steam Gardens, Steam Railway magazine and the National Railway Museum to move the engine from Bressingham to the Great Central Railway in Loughborough to be overhauled back to mainline standard operation. The engine made a brief static display appearance at the 2004 Railfest in York and was then moved to Loughborough where it was overhauled in time for it to run again on the 40th anniversary of 1T57 (named the ‘Fifteen Guinea Special’ the last official passenger service train on Network Rail (then British Railways) on the central leg between Manchester and Carlisle.
The engine was overhauled jointly by GC Railway, LSLG (Loughborough Standard Locomotive Group) and 5305 Locomotive Association and moved for the first time in March 2008. Mainline operation and custodianship of the locomotive was awarded to 5305 Locomotive Association due to the success and experience they had demonstrated with 30777 Sir Lamiel (also NRM owned) and ‘Black Five’ 45305 named ‘Alderman AE Draper’.
Oliver Cromwell operated under the care of 5305 LA and the GCR until the end of 2018, during which it undertook many mainline tours and visits to many heritage railways as well as events at the NRM York and throughout the UK.
